Retailers We Love: Pieces Home Décor
Connecting with Jennifer Holdworth was a silver lining in this unpredictable year. After recently opening, she contacted me this summer to have a look at my jewelry collection. It was a pleasant surprise to hear about the opening of her shop and I was glad to take the drive up the Connecticut shore to Old Saybrook to meet with her. Upon entering Pieces, I immediately noticed it is a well curated space. From unique furniture to small thoughtful gift items, there’s obvious thought to the selection and the ease of the store’s layout. I’m so glad my jewelry was selected to be part of the artisan offerings at Pieces Home Décor.
Off to a successful start, my jewelry has become popular with the customers at Pieces. With an upcoming holiday trunk show there, I decided to find out more about Jennifer and what inspired her to create this lovely shop.
Tell us a little about yourself and why you opened Pieces Home Decor.
Pieces is something that has been a dream for years and back in 2017 my husband and I sold part of our business that gave me time to spend with my twin boys…who are also a dream come true but as they entered their senior year of high school I decided to take on a new baby and Pieces was born. The Covid crisis delayed my opening by several months and I officially opened my doors on May 22, 2020.
Why did you select Old Saybrook, Connecticut to open your shop?
Old Saybrook is a beautiful shoreline community that we wanted to become part of.
How do you select your inventory for Pieces?
Anyone who has been in my shop knows that I am very picky. I love Pieces with a story and when I buy, I like to buy something that my customers will enjoy having in their homes and sharing with their families. My search for the perfect Pieces is constant.
What made you add our collection to the shop?
I love the classic look of your designs and I think pearls are always the perfect choice whether the occasion is formal or casual.
What makes artisan design/gifts so special?
There is a saying out that when you buy from an artist you are not just buying an object, you are buying a piece of that artist’s heart, a part of their soul and a moment of their life. When one of my customers buys that Piece there is a connection between those two people.
